The Seanad ( Irish Senate) has launched a public consultation on the constitutional future of Ireland.

The upcoming Public Consultation will look at the constitutional future of the island of Ireland given the ongoing public policy debate on the issue, the safeguarding of the peace process, and the future that Ireland would like to have for generations to come.

The Seanad invites submissions from individuals, interested groups, and organizations to consider the constitutional future of the Island of Ireland.

Sinn Féin’s Seanad Leader, Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile, has welcomed the consultation process and will sit on the committee overseeing the project.

Speaking this morning, Senator Ó Donnghaile said:

“The appetite for change is clear and across society, people are talking about the benefits of Irish unity and how constitutional change can create a better, fairer, and more equal Ireland for us all to share.

“I would encourage any interested groups and individuals to make submissions to our work. This is a growing conversation and this is a crucial opportunity to make your voice heard about Ireland’s constitutional future at home and abroad.”

The closing date for submissions is 4pm on Monday 5th September. The e-mail address for submissions is: seanadpublicconsult@oireachtas.ie

In late September and throughout October the committee will meet to hear in-person submissions.
