Sinn Féin Vice President Meets Senator Chris Murphy

Senator Chris Murphy (D. CT) met the Sinn Féin Vice President Michelle O’Neill in Stormont (Belfast).


Ms. O’Neill, who jointly leads the government in the North of Ireland, took the opportunity to brief Senator Murphy on the refusal of the British Government to honor their commitments and agreements.


The threat by the British Government to suspend their Brexit agreement was destabilizing business and political institutions.


Their proposals to close down investigations into the conflict and implement an unconditional amnesty was an insult to victims and undermined the human rights obligations of the Good Friday Agreement.


The US remains a vital ally in our peace process and an effective guarantor of our agreements.


The Sinn Féin Vice President thanked Senator Murphy for his continued support of peace, prosperity, and progress in Ireland. She outlined the growing support for Irish Unity.

During the visit to Belfast, Senator Murphy released a letter, co-signed by Senator Pat Toomey (R. PA) calling for the protection of the GFA and a negotiated agreement on Brexit
