The Ballad of James Connolly – Kathleen (Largey) Thompson


On this day in 1868, the legendary Irish Republican leader was born in Edinburgh. A one-time soldier in the British Army, a trade union organizer in the US, a socialist, and founder of the Irish Citizens Army.


A signatory of the proclamation and military leader of the Easter Rising he was shot and injured in the GPO. After the Rising unable to stand he was executed by the British while tied to a chair. Remembering James Connolly.
